Day one and the gang's all here!

God is good all the time...

We arrived in Hyderabad safely and without a hitch at 1:30am. I am writing you from the home of Sunitha Mortha's (ELCA Global Mission staff) parents for lunch and time to get to know one another. Saturday in the city is a sight to see: mopeds and little yellow 'rickshaws' that look like a cross between a moped and a mini Cooper among huge buses and ox drawn carts. There is an unbelievable dialogue to the traffic mixed with hand signals that keeps things moving at a fast pace. Women in brightly colored saris on the back of mopeds are busy about the day as women are everywhere.

Our group of women from the U.S., India, Singapore and Japan grew by one today: Mani Kumari Christopher, the wife of Bishop Christopher of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church, who will join us for the journey. Day one thanks for your prayers... more to come.

Greetings to you all! So glad to hear you have arrived safely and are ready to experience all that India can share with you. We all look forward to hearing from you. We'll be especially happy to share your prayer petitions this coming week when the presidents of our synodical organizations gather in Salt Lake City for the annual Conference of Presidents. And we'll think of you when we think of 'bold women' on Sunday, the 25th, Bold Women's Day!

Was glad to hear that you all got there easily...can't wait to hear more! Just do me a favor and make sure that Susan tries a variety of things, and doesn't pull the "no, I know I won't like it" bit. She's in India..time to continue to be adventurous!

BTW, Susan, check yer email, if you can. :P

Love your descriptions, Val! After traveling in India I should never complain about Chicago traffic congestion again...I do, of course, but I shouldn't.

Please hug Leslie for me. She's a wonderful traveling companion and wise woman.

Blessings on your heads,
Sue
